Newborn Photography Tips: How to Capture Beautiful Baby Photos in Philadelphia & Delaware County

Welcoming a newborn into your family is one of the most special moments in life, and capturing those first days with a professional newborn photoshoot ensures you’ll have memories to cherish forever. As a Philadelphia and Delaware County newborn photographer, I’ve worked with hundreds of families to create timeless, beautiful portraits of their little ones.

Whether you're preparing for your first newborn session or just want to know what to expect, these essential tips will help you have a smooth, stress-free experience.

1. Schedule Your Newborn Session Early

The best time to book your newborn photography session is during your pregnancy. Ideally, newborn photos are taken within the first 5-20 days of birth when babies are sleepiest and easiest to pose. Since sessions fill up quickly, securing your date early ensures you get a spot!

2. Keep Your Baby Cozy & Comfortable

A warm and relaxed baby is a happy baby! During your session, I keep my studio in Delaware County at a warm temperature to help your little one stay sleepy and calm. If you're doing an in-home newborn session, I recommend turning up the heat slightly and dressing baby in loose clothing to avoid marks on their skin.

3. Choose Soft, Neutral Outfits & Wraps

Simple, soft tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby’s delicate features.  Parents often love neutral, timeless colors like beige, cream, soft pastels, and muted earth tones. I provide a variety of wraps, headbands, and newborn outfits to create a classic, elegant look for your session.

4. Plan for Family & Sibling Photos

Including parents and siblings in your newborn session is a great way to capture the love and connection of your growing family. If you’re worried about toddlers being part of the session, don’t stress—I have plenty of experience working with little ones and keeping them engaged for their portion of the session.

5. Relax & Enjoy the Moment

Newborn sessions are designed to be slow and relaxed. Babies may need breaks for feeding, soothing, or diaper changes, and that’s completely normal! As your Philadelphia newborn photographer, my goal is to create a stress-free experience where you can soak in these precious moments without worry.
