One of the biggest questions I get from families planning beach photos in Avalon, Sea Isle City, and Ocean City, NJ is what to wear. And honestly, outfit choices can make such a big difference in how your gallery feels.
My biggest advice is to keep things neutral, soft, and comfortable.
For beach sessions, I always think creams, whites, soft taupes, light blues, soft sage, dusty blush, and muted earthy tones photograph the best. These colors keep the focus on your family and work so beautifully with the tones of the beach, sand, and sunset sky. I usually recommend avoiding super bright colors, neons, and anything too bold that can pull attention away in photos.
I also always love soft, flowy clothing for beach sessions. Dresses with movement, linen pieces, loose skirts, and lightweight fabrics photograph so well because they catch the breeze and add so much softness to your images. They just fit the feel of a beach session so much better than anything stiff or overly structured.
For dads and boys, I usually suggest keeping it simple ... light neutrals, soft blues, khaki, linen, or breathable fabrics always look great. For moms and girls, flowy dresses or outfits with a little movement tend to photograph beautifully.
The biggest thing is to make sure everyone coordinates without looking too matchy. You don’t need everyone in the exact same color — I’d much rather see a mix of soft, neutral tones that all work together.
